Also known as “granola”, the crunchy muesli is the perfect replacement of cereals for breakfast. It was developed around 1900 by Swiss physician Maximilian Bircher-Benner for patients in his hospital, where a diet rich in fresh fruit and vegetables was an essential part of therapy. So this healthy food will be perfect to start the day with lots of energies!
- 135g oat flakes
- 80g cashew
- 70g hazelnuts
- 70g brown sugar
- 110g honey
- 30g puffed spelt (farro soffiato)
- 2 spoons of olive oil
You can basically add whatever you want to your muesli such as seeds, almonds, chocolate, coconut flakes, raisin, goji berries and so on (just remember to add seeds,berries and chocolate only after taking the muesli out of the oven).
Firstly cut into big pieces both the cashews and the hazelnuts
Then put them into a bowl together with the sugar, the oat flakes and the puffed spelt
After adding the olive oil and the honey, mix all together really well
Spread the mixture into a baking dish (previously lined with a baking paper)
Bake in the oven at 140°C for 20 minutes (mix up the mixture every 8/10 minutes)
Let it cool and then break it and put it into a container (keep in the fridge)
